Thank you for your interest in the Paddock Community and Learning Garden! Our goal is to promote and inspire healthy living and community spirit through cooperative gardening and related learning opportunities. Our garden provides gardening opportunities to individuals, families and school children in the Milan community.
Community gardening offers many benefits to both those who actively participate, and the community itself. Gardeners benefit through exercise and eating healthful organic foods, while also reducing household food costs. They also benefit by learning more about planting and harvesting crops, composting, and other aspects of gardening. Community gardens are shown to increase property values and promote and increased sense of community. Food donations to Aid In Milan are also a great benefit to our community, providing fresh produce to families in need.
Our 2007 growing season (our 1st) was a great success with over 300 pounds of healthy, organic produce donated to Aid In Milan. Individuals and families successfully harvested lettuce, radishes, beans, cabbage, herbs, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and more! The 2008 season welcomed new gardeners and an expanded site with more raised beds, a water line, fencing, and a beautiful sign. The 2009 growing season was a huge success - we gardened with even more community members and harvested more healthy, affordable produce. We look forward to many years of happy and healthy gardening!
We invite you to come garden with us! Space is limited and gardeners must be willing to commit to caring for their garden throughout the entire growing season. Some gardeners have found it helpful to share a plot with a friend or neighbor, sharing the maintenance and the produce.
Please take time to thoroughly read through the PCLG Rules and Regulations before applying.
Volunteers are welcome! If you don’t want to garden but would like to help out in another way (Garden leadership, classes, donations, etc.) please contact Liz Sutherland by email at [email protected]
Gardens grow more than just flowers and vegetables. They grow children, families and communities.
